As mentioned in the minutes, Rose Marie Hess read this piece at the October HG meeting. It was suggested that we could sponsor or get the ball rolling for an event such as this for students in the college who are on a very limited budget. Lots of discussion took place and it was decided it was a complex undertaking. It was suggested that Food Services and the Student Association be involved. Rose was asked to talk to John Reimers about it in November and we will see where it goes from there.

When choosing speakers for the 2018-19 year, Ron Blicq’s was one of the sessiomns members voted to hear. HG member Ron volunteered to, “talk about how it has been for me making the transition to a seniors’ living space, what to expect and not to expect, and how it has affected me and my family.” Ron had also suggested that a residence staff person join him to fill in details.

Exploring Manitoba’s French Canadian and Métis Heritage

On May 16, 2018 twenty-five Red River College Heritage Group members and their guests were treated to a walk back in time at the St. Boniface Museum and Cathedral.? Under the able tutelage of museum guides Aiden and Julie-Anne, the group learned about the day-to-day life of the early French-Canadian settlers in western Canada, the Metis population that developed in our province, Louis Riel, voyageurs and the fur trade and the role of the Roman Catholic Church in the settling of the west. Yesterday, Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) announced the recipients of its 2018 Awards of Excellence during the association’s annual conference in Victoria, BC.
The CICan Awards of Excellence recognize best practices from institutions across the country, as well as individual leadership and achievements. The awards were distributed in partnership with TD Insurance,?the exclusive sponsor of CICan’s Awards of Excellence.
